If a steakhouse and a seafood restaurant were to have a passionate affair, the result would look like Ocean Prime, a modern American supper club from the brains behind Mitchell’s Fish Market and Cameron’s Steakhouse.
“Our concept is the Rat Pack meets Sex and the City,” says GM Steve Singleton. “This is a dressed-up, high-energy meeting place—there’s nothing else like it anywhere in the state.”
That singularity is what has been keeping Ocean Prime jam-packed since it opened at the beginning of summer. Singleton says it’s filled to capacity every night of the week, and based on the crowd this Wednesday evening, they know how to keep their guests happy.
For starters, we’re going with our server’s recommendation and trying the Hawaiian Big-Eye Tuna Tartare ($14). Fresh tuna is stacked into a mini-mesa with avocado, crispy wonton noodles, scallions, sesame seeds and served with a delicate ginger ponzu sauce. It’s practically a mini-meal. Another winner is the Colossal  Shrimp Saute ($16), served in a dynamite Tabasco-cream sauce. Not too spicy and a great segue into tonight’s featured entrée. The Filet “Oscar” Style ($42) is a sumptuous 10 ounce cut of beef, covered with massive chunks of jumbo lump crab meat and two sauces (cabernet jus and delectable Béarnaise) that mingle into a rich pool, perfect for dipping each bit. For metro-Detroit meat lovers, there is just no other way to go.
Ocean Prime also features live entertainment seven days a week, encouraging those in Detroit to get their groove on.Image
